El Toro Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Irvine, California on the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro.
The course, which first opened for play in 1945, was designed by William P. Bell.
Numerous trees can effect your shots. There is no water on the course, but there are strategically placed sand bunkers incorporated into the course design.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,750 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,657 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-5 that plays to 533 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 185 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, a 433 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 9, a 195 yard par-3.
The course remained open for a number of years after the official base closure in July 1999, The course was closed in 2007 for a renovation that was to be completed by 2009. As of 2014, there has been no renovation and the existing course layout has been bulldozed.
